Oleg Nuta and Ilie Sprincean became world champions in the 500 m canoe double at the U23 Canoe Sprint World Championships that were held in Romania, IPN reports.
They had the result of 01:40.912 and outran the representatives of the hosts Catalin Chirila and Constantin Diba, who finished in 01:41.520. Ukrainian pair Yurii Vandiuk-Andrii Rybachok ranked third with the result of 01:41.824.
This summer, the pair Oleg Nuta – Ilie Sprincean has won two medals at the U23 European Canoe Championships in Belgrade: gold in 500 m and silver in 1 000 m. At the competition in Romania they also competed in the 1 000 m final, but finished seventh.
In the 500 m canoe double, incumbent president of the National Olympic Committee Nicolae Juravschi, together with Victor Reneischi, became Olympic champions in 1988 and won silver at the 1996 Olympic Games.
