On July 31, number portability will start to be used in fixed-line phone networks too. Number portability enables the people to retain their phone number when changing the network operator, IPN reports.
According to the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI), the subscribers will benefit from number portability in fixed line within five workdays of the submission of the application to the operator to which they want their phone number to be ported. The numbers used by subscribers of analogical centers will be ported only after these centers are digitized.
The operators are obliged to ensure the portability of numbers regardless of the technology used, the type of service, the payment method or the fact whether the subscriber has a written contract signed with the operator or not. The persons whose fixed-line phone number comes in a package with other services, such as Internet and television, will also be able to port their number to another provider.
The mobile number portability service was launched in Moldova on July 1. By July 30, there were recorded over 7,000 applications for porting mobile phone numbers. Over 5,300 numbers were already ported.
