The number of foreigners who visited the Republic of Moldova in 2016 rose by about 18.9% on 2016. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the number of state border crossings involving foreigners came to 3.4 million, IPN reports.
Most of the visitors came to Moldova from Romania – over 1.8 million. This is 54.9% of all the tourists. The Ukrainian tourists totaled over 970,000 or 28.7%, while the Russian ones over 247,000 or approximately 7.3%.
The foreigners preferred to come to Moldova by motor vehicles - 84% of the crossings - and by plane – 14.3% of the tourists.
