More than 40 cases of lack of cast iron manhole covers or attempts to steal these have been reported in the municipality of Chisinau during three weeks. After the utility SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” made a public call, the dwellers became more receptive and do not remain indifferent to such irregularities.
Contacted by IPN, the head of the company’s press center Elena Danu said cast iron lids are most often stolen, but the people became more active and report the absence of trapdoors on sidewalks, in parks and in the areas between apartment buildings.
The water supplier said a cast iron cover costs about 1,300 lei. The reinforced concrete lids are also used and these are cheaper, but not so efficient. These covers cannot be used on the roadway.
The residents can report the lack of trapdoors or attempts to steal them on 022-25-66-66 and 022-85-77-77 or can write a message to the email address acc@acc.md. Each relevant call made to the company’s Central Dispatcher’s Service is immediately verified by expert teams of the company and measures are taken to ensure the security of pedestrians and traffic.
After works are done to set up other cast iron trapdoors or reinforced concrete lids, those who reported the cases are informed about this.
In the municipality of Chisinau, there are about 100,000 manholes covered with cast iron trapdoors and reinforced concrete lids.
