Subdivisions of the State Tax Service received 157,000 tax returns for 2013 from private individuals, by 35,000 or about 22% more than in 2012, IPN reports, quoting the head of the Main State Tax Inspectorate Ion Prisacaru.

Ion Prisacaru said that according to the preliminary data, the incomes declared for 2013 increased by about 28 billion lei or 7.7% on 2012. The tax returns for last year submitted by March 31 are being processed and the final data will be soon made public. The preliminary data show that the taxpayers’ attitude to their fiscal obligations has changed.

“The pre-completed statement service launched by the State Tax Service also made its contribution. Based on the information possessed by the Service, such statements were compiled and sent to all the settlements. Our local offices staged informative seminars and worked with the taxpayers who didn’t declare the incomes earned the previous years,” stated Ion Prisacaru.

The efforts made to combat tax evasion and to encourage voluntary compliance started to produce results in the case of legal entities too. Many of those who do not manage to pay taxes according to the agreed timetable do not wait for the payment date, but ask rescheduling the debts.

According to Ion Prisacaru, based on the model of managing risks related to the voluntary compliance of economic entities, 1,521 companies working in trade, transport, constructions and the processing industry in 2013 received standard letters explaining the mistakes related to tax payment made the previous years. The tax inspectors had discussions with 1,157 of them, while 452 economic entities were invited to thematic meetings organized by the State Tax Service, where there were analyzed the mistakes made most often when calculating and paying taxes.

Ion Prisacaru said work is yet to be done to prevent tax evasion and to stimulate voluntary compliance. “Only the information, persuasion and provision of services that meet taxpayers’ needs can produce the expected results,” he added.
