The number of cancer-diagnosed patients in the Transnistrian region is increasing. In 2011, over 11,000 people have been diagnosed with this disease, which is 1,400 cases more than in 2010, and 2,300 more than in 2009, reports Info-Prim Neo, citing the region’s press. According to the oncologist of the Ribnita hospital Victor Cojuhari, throughout the last 3 years, an alarming increase is being noted in the number of people diagnosed with oncological diseases, who seek medical assistance when their diseases reach their last phase, when the treatment is of little efficient. In order to prevent such situations in the future, the region’s specialists undertake routine checks in the villages from Moldova’s eastern districts. According to Cojuhari, the number of people affected by cancer is increasing, also due to the lack of the necessary equipment for endoscopic and premature radiologic diagnosis. The doctor mentions that the disease can be prevented by avoiding smoking, the excessive consumption of fats and products prepared on the basis of smoke liquid. Regular examinations help at identifying the disease at an incipient phase and ensure successful treatment.
