Number of offences on the rise

The crime rate in the first seven months of this year rose by 3.2% compared with the corresponding period last year. As many as 14,633 offences have been reported in Moldova since the start of the year, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the General Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the quoted source, the number of extremely serious offences has increased by about 6%, of serous offences – by 3.5%, of minor offences – by 37.2%. The number of crimes against the life and health and those related to the sexual life has also mounted.
The minor offences fell insignificantly in number, while the number of very serious offences decreased by 37.5% year on year. The Moldovans also committed fewer economic offences.
Chisinau’s Ciocana and Buiucani districts witnessed an increase in the number of offences. The crime rate in these districts rose by an average 29% compared with January-July 2008. The number of offences also grew in such tows as Calarasi, Briceni, Hancesti, Straseni, Soroca, and Ialoveni.
Leova, Dubasari, Cantemir, Rascani, Basarabeasca and Ceadar-Lunga saw fewer offences this year.
