Salary incomes higher than 1 million lei in 2016 were obtained by 422 private individuals, as opposed to 358 in 2015. The statistics do not yet cover the millionaires with revenues earned from dividends, royalty or property leasing. These revenues are taxed at the source of payment and are not declared. As many as 1,061 persons last year earned more than 1 million lei, as against 1,017 in 2015, IPN reports.
“The number of persons who earned revenues of over 1 million lei during the last few years has increased considerably,” said the head of the State Tax Service Sergiu Puscuta.
The highest revenues declared by a private individual were of over 16 million lei. However, most of the millionaires have revenues between 1 million and 3 million lei.
Most of the millionaires work in trade, information technology and the financial sector. The youngest millionaire is 18, while the eldest is 89.
As regards the place of residence, most of the millionaires work in Chisinau municipality. “We do not have essential changes as regards the number of female millionaires. The number of male millionaires is three times higher,” stated Puscuta.
He also said that the number of tax returns submitted by private individuals totaled 177,731, by over 10% more than last year. The paid income taxes came to 3.126 billion lei.
