Seven gymnasiums and general schools of Chisinau municipality, including 5 from suburban localities, will be reorganized into lyceums starting 1 September 2006, pursuant to a Municipal Council’s decision.
According to the interim head of the Education, Science, Youth and Sports General Department (DGETS), Tatiana Nagnibeda, the pre-university institutions were reorganized at the request of parents and teachers. The inspections in those 7 institutions showed the compliance of the intellectual capacity of the didactic staff, Tatiana Nagnibeda also noted. Previously, the mayors of suburban localities have requested as well to create lyceums in suburbs given the fact that, due to their lack, hundreds of children from suburbs have to travel to town to attend one.
Thus, the general school no.14 of the district Rascani was reorganized into the Theoretic Lyceum “Natalia Gheorghiu”, the general school no.62 of the district Center – into the Theoretic Lyceum “Minerva”. General schools from the villages Budesti, Bacioi, Stauceni and town Cricova also will be transformed into lyceums. The gymnasium no.66 from Sangera will also be reorganized into the Theoretic Lyceum “Alexandru cel Bun”.
In the light of the same decision of CMC, 2 primary schools were reorganized into gymnasiums, and 4 schools-kindergartens – into kidergartens-schools. The DGETS motivates the necessity of kindergartens by the fact that lately it is noted an increasing trend of the number of pre-school aged children.
