The A(H1N1) flu has caused six victims in Moldova since the start of the 2018-2019 flu season. According to the National Public Health Agency, in most of the cases the persons went to see a doctor too late and tried self-medication.

Contacted by IPN, Ștefan Gheorghiță, division head at the Agency, said the last four cases of death were recorded last week. They involved two women and two men aged between 34 and 66. Among the victims is a young woman who died shortly after giving birth prematurely by caesarian section.

A number of 271 cases of flu, 124,768 acute upper respiratory tract infections and 6,928 severe respiratory infections were logged during October 1, 2018 – January 20, 2019.

Specialists warn the population to immediately see a doctor when the first symptoms of disease appear. The infected persons should be isolated at home and, if need be, should be hospitalized. The persons exposed to big risks of infection, pregnant women, persons with cardiovascular diseases, chronic diseases of the respiratory system, diabetes and obesity should avoid contact with infected persons.
