Number of DUI cases is rising

More and more case of driving under influence (DUI) of alcohol are being registered. Head of Municipal Police Silviu Musuc stated on Monday, at the City Hall meeting, that the main cause is that drivers do not know they may fall under criminal charges, reports Info-Prim Neo. For a concentration of alcohol in blood of up 0.8 per thousand, administrative sanctions are applied. If the blood alcohol content test will show a more advanced drunkenness state, the charges become penal. The legislation stipulates a fine from 400 to 500 conventional units, with privation of driver’s rights for 3 to 5 years. The drivers may also get a criminal file upon refusal to take the drug test. 46 drivers were caught drunk last week, and 486 criminal proceedings have been initiated since the beginning of the year, all based on DUIs. In the first half of the current year, over 1000 accidents happened in Moldova, in which 152 people died, and almost 1500 were injured. 7% of the accidents happened due to the drivers’ drunken state.
