Number of criminal cases over cyber crimes last year twice higher

As many as 74 criminal cases over computer crimes were started last year, as opposed to the average of 32 cases the previous years, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO), the investigated cases concerned the violation of the secrecy of correspondence, manufacturing and putting of forged payment cards into circulation, cyber frauds, child pornography, illegal use of telecommunications networks and systems.

The PGO designed and approved a number of initiatives to august the national legislation to the provisions of international documents on the prevention and combating of cyber crimes. Emphasis was put on the necessity of hastening the amendments of the Criminal Code articles concerning child pornography with a view to toughening up criminal punishment for this offense. The related legislation may also be modified so as to provide sufficient legal mechanisms for blocking the broadcasting of information banned by the law and protecting the children from information that can influence them negatively.
