The number of offenses committed by top dignitaries – including corruption and corruption-related acts – registered a slump in January, 2009, compared with the same period of last year, reads a communique of the General Prosecutor’s Office (GPO), without specifying its percentage, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the source, in January, the Courts sentenced 11 persons on penal procedures of corruption and 5 persons on corruption-related acts. In January, the prosecutors registered 41 infractions committed by top dignitaries, 2 active corruption acts, 5 passive corruption acts, 7 cases of bribery and 8 cases of misuse of power. According to the GPS, the number of offenses committed by organized criminal groups, cases of human trafficking, murders, offenses against the patrimony. 15 homicides, 16 rapes, 30 batteries, 603 crimes against property were registered in January. According to the operative information, 1,301 offenses were registered in January, that is 4.3% less that in January, 2008.
