The number of children who remained without parental care and were institutionalized  in the Transnistrian region declined in the first nine months of this year. Compared with the corresponding period last year, the number fell by 123 children, IPN reports.

The Transnistrian press reported that there are now over 1,700 children who remained without parental care in the region. Of these, about 1,000 are in the care of private individuals, over 600 were placed at different budget-funded institutions, while about 30 – at family-type children’s homes.

The region’s administration makes effort to prevent the institutionalization of children. Thus, over 55% of the children who remained without parental care are now in the care of relatives or persons who want to adopt them.
