The number of cases of flu and acute respiratory infections went down below the epidemic level. Vice director of the National Public Health Center Nicolae Furtuna has told IPN that even if the number of cases of infections decreased, the weather still favors the spread of disease.
According to Furtuna, it is now a period when the number of cases of flu and acute respiratory infections declines. “We are witnessing a decline, but the parameters are still high. Most of the indicators are now decreasing, including as regards hospitalization, incidence and the number of separate cases of viral infections,” he said.
The vice director of the National Public Health Center also said that it’s not known for how long the period of decline will last as the weather is favorable for disease. “The low temperatures at night and high temperatures during the day as well as high humidity create favorable conditions for the spread of flu,” stated Nicolae Furtuna.
According to the Ministry of Health, influenza has claimed 16 deaths so far this year. The persons who died weren’t vaccinated against flu and went to see a doctor too late.
