The Border Police recommend travellers to inform themselves about the situation on the border and the traffic at border crossing points before setting off. Such information is available on the official website of the Border Police. If the traffic is heavy at the Leușeni or Criva customs post, the tourists can choose the border crossing points situated nearby, such as those in Sculeni, Costești, Briceni and Larga.

In a press briefing, Boarder Police deputy head Valentin Fiodorov said the border police officers before Christmas celebrated according to the old calendar will continue to work intensely. The number of border crossings to leave Moldova is expected to go up, primarily at such customs posts as Leușeni, Sculeni, Criva, Otaci and the Chisinau International Airport.

On New Year’s Eve, to effectively manage the flow at the most popular border crossing points, the number of officers on duty was increased. About 700 border police officers worked on the night between years. Also, senior managers of border police subdivisions created support groups that dealt with difficult situations. Patrols monitored the situation in border localities in order to maintain public order.

The head of the Border Control Division Andrei Gori said that over 114,000 crossings of the border were recorded during December 30 - January 3, 2.6 times more than in the corresponding period a year before. Among the most popular border crossing points are: the Chisinau International Airport, Leușeni, Albița, Sculeni, Criva – Mămăliga, Otaci-Moghiliov-Podolsk, Giurgiulești-Galați, Palanca-Maiaki-Udobnoe. To avoid crowdedness, the travellers are urged to use the Larga-Kelmențî and Briceni-Rossoșanî customs post on the northern part of the Moldovan-Ukrainian border and the Cahul-Oancea, Costești-Stânca and Lipcani-Rădăuți Prut (which works during the day only) on the Moldovan-Romanian border.

On New Year’s Eve, 28 foreigners were banned entry to Moldova because they didn’t meet the entry conditions. Andrei Gori reminded that entry conditions are imposed on foreign citizens who come from Africa.
