Number of air passengers increased

The number of enplaned passengers in January-February increased by 10.6%, constituting roughly 53,000, shows data of the National Statistics Bureau. In the reporting period, the number of passenger-kilometre made up 67,500/km, by 14.5% more against the same period last year.
The most demanded destinations were Istanbul, Moscow and Budapest. The air trip of passengers is mainly ensured by 5 national companies such as: “Air Moldova”, “Moldavian Airlines”, “Tandem Aero”, “International Airport Marculesti”, “Nobil Air” as well as 4 foreign companies: “Turkish Airlines”, “Austrian Airlines”, “Tarom” and “Club Air”.
At the same time, the number of those who travelled by bus and mini-bus diminished in the respective period by 0.1%, down to 16,900.
Railway transportation was a choice for approximately 442,300 passengers, by 6.6% more compared to the similar period last year. At the same time the covered distance by auto and railway transportation increased by 19.6 and 14.5% correspondingly.
The number of passengers who travelled by railway in January 2007 increased by 6.6% (+27.2 thousand passengers compared to January 2006).
These data exclude economic entities on the left bank of the Nistru River and in Bender municipality.
