Number cases of human trafficking on the rise

The number of cases of trafficking in human beings increased last year compared with a year before. The data of the Prosecutor General’s Office show that the number of offenses related to human trafficking in 2015 rose to 314, as opposed to 292 in 2014. The number of cases of trafficking in children increased the most, IPN reports.

Of the over 150 cases of trafficking in persons reported in 2015, 38 were cases of trafficking in children, as against 24 cases in 2014. In another ten cases, minors were illegally taken out of the country. Last year, there were also recorded almost 70 cases of procuring and 46 cases of organization of illegal migration.

A number of 124 cases over related offenses were sent to court in 2015. In most of the cases, the trials are over. Of the 139 convicted persons, 41 culprits were jailed, 51 were put on probation, while 28 were fined. In seven of the cases, the prosperity used to commit offences was confiscated.
