About 36 million lei will be spent in order to organize the second round of general local elections, which will take place on November 3. The election campaign re-started today, October 23, after the Central Electoral Commission announced the date of the second election round.

Asked by IPN, CEC chairman Dorin Cimil said that the money would be directed towards electoral procedures, including ballot paper printing. The number of ballots for the 383 settlements, where the second round of elections will take place, has not been established yet. Ballot printing will most likely start next week.

The two candidates with the most votes in the first round of the October 20 elections will proceed to the second round and will be registered in the ballot papers in descending order based on the number of votes accumulated in the first round.

If one of the two candidates withdraws from the electoral race no later than 7 days before voting day, the election will be held between the remaining candidate and the candidate who came in third after the first round.

As for the election campaign, the Commission chairman said that it ended on election day, however, when the date of the second round was established and announced, the election campaign re-started, which is today, October 23.

The second election round does not involve a validation threshold.

518 mayors were elected in the first election round which took place on October 20. 20 mayors won the election by securing 100% of the votes by running unopposed.
