The public movement “Noua Gagauzia” that is headed by the mayor of Comrat Nicolae Dudoglo joined the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM). A decision to this effect was taken in the movement’s third congress by the unanimous vote of the about 1,400 delegates attending, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to a communiqué from the movement, the PDM is becoming the most representative party in Gagauzia and holds a majority of seats on the People’s Assembly.
Nicolae Dudoglo said that “Noua Gagauzia” fulfilled its minimal program agreed when the organization was established and achieved good results in its development, but now should switch to a new development level by joining a powerful, center-left party.
“The PDM is the political party that promotes principles and objectives that are close to the movement “Noua Gagauzia”. It also closely cooperates with foreign Social-Democratic forces. By this fusion, we will obtain more powerful representation in the Parliament of Moldova,” said Dudoglo, announcing that the about 14,500 members of “Noua Gagauzia” will join the PDM.
The chairman of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia Dmitri Constantinov said the decision is a well thought out one and was determined by the unity of visions and objectives. “We, as the PDM, plead for the promotion of a balanced policy,” he stated.
Attending the congress, the leader of the PDM Marian Lupu named the decision a historical one because it lays the basis for cooperation in integrating the political elite of the autonomous unit into the national political system. “After Gagauzia was granted a special status, there appeared a certain rupture. Being isolated, the local political forces did not feel part of the national political system. In a short period, we will see the results of this cooperation. We have a country and we should decide our future together,” he said, adding that representatives of “Noua Gagauzia” will hold executive positions in the PDM.
Created in 2010, the public movement “Noua Gagauzia” has about 14,500 members and 29 primary organizations. Its third congress took place on November 24.
