Not many things happened since 2014 until 2018 to be able to say that the state institutions are preoccupied with the banking fraud, economic expert Veaceslav Negruta stated in the talk show “Expertise hour” on Jurnal TV channel, IPN reports.

Veaceslav Negruta said the strategy for recovering the stolen money presented by the National Anticorruption Center and the Prosecutor General’s Office is not a money recovery strategy as 60% of this relates what happened in the Republic of Moldova. Furthermore, this document is not somehow correlated with the work done by Kroll and the strategy that this company submitted to the authorities. “So, we consider that the national strategy is a form of communicating with society and of misleading it and of showing to the foreign partners that a strategy exists and the recovery of money will start soon,” he stated.

According to the experts, if things had been done correctly, the foreign funds after the first Kroll report should have been sequestrated and blocked at the request of the Moldovan authorities. This way the money placed in offshore areas and in other European jurisdictions wouldn’t have returned to Moldova. They now try to legalize the bringing of the stolen money back to Moldova. “We should not forget about the nationality law and about the large projects launched in the current electoral year. Where is the necessary money taken from?” wondered Veaceslav Negruta.

Expert Sergiu Tofilat said the strategy presented recently by the National Anticorruption Center and the Prosecutor General’s Office can be used as evidence against the representatives of these institutions to show their complicity in hiding the US$1 billion. “Time will come when this evidence, together with other proofs, will be used against the so-called prosecutors and investigators,” he noted.
