The Government of Norway provided additional technical assistance to the value of 3 million kroner (about 6.2 million lei) for designing Moldova’s digital map, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Agency for Land Relations and Cadastre.
The Creation of the Digital Map for Developing Moldova’s Economy Project is fully financed by the Government of Norway, which so far has invested 8 million kroner (about 16.7 million lei).
The project has two components. The first is being implemented and envisions the devising of the national satellite positioning system “Moldpos”. The system will include a permanent network of seven GPS stations. The necessary equipment was already delivered. The places were the GPS stations will be set up were selected. The stations will be installed by the winner of the tender contest – the Swiss company Leica Geosystems.
The second component focuses on the drawing up of the digital map on the basis of Ortophoto pictures taken in 2007-2009. The digital map will consist of a number of thematic maps and could be used in all the sectors of the national economy.
A working meeting of experts of the Norwegian Mapping and Cadastre Authority “Statens Kartverk” and of Moldova’s Agency for Land Relations and Cadastre will take place in Chisinau in February. The Moldovan experts are to present the documents needed to hold an international tender contest for designing the digital map. The designing works will start this year.
