The Vălcineț-Ocnița-Bălți-Ungheni-Chișinău-Căinari rail corridor that is 446 km long will be rehabilitated with a €23 million loan that will be provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The Cabinet approved the ratification of an agreement to this effect, IPN reports.
In the Cabinet’s meeting, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrei Spînu said the money will be transferred in two tranches, of €12 million and, respectively, €11 million. The railroad ties, rails and the track ballast on critical segments will be changed.
The project is designed to enhance safety in rail transport, to increase the travel speed of passenger and freight trains and to contribute to reducing rolling stock rotation.
