Polls showing that only 35% of Moldova’s population want the country to integrate into the EU present in fact the position of only one quarter of the population, considers Romanian MEP Norica Nicolai. She developed the issue in the program “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel, IPN reports.

“I’m not scared by this figure. We should not forget that it covers actually only half of the remaining population. The other half chose the European Union long ago. They went to live, work or study there,” stated the MEP.

Speaking about corruption in Moldova, Norica Nicolai said the situation is in fact different from the one presented by some. “The problem of corruption is a serious one and there are voices saying that the fight against this scourge was lost, while the authorities do nothing in this regard. The Republic of Moldova faces bigger economic problems than other countries. But the whole people cannot be corrupt,” said the member of the European Parliament.

Norica Nicolai considers it’s not normal for a person (Vlad Filat – e.n.) to be in custody for the bank fraud, while his accomplice (Ilan Shor –e.n.) to be left on the outside. “Something is wrong. It’s not normal for one person only to be arrested in the case of the bank fraud,” she stated.

Norica Nicolai forms part of the European Parliament’s delegation to the EU – Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee that is having a meeting in Chisinau on May 17-19.
