Non-biometric passports will be issued only by end-December

Applications for non-biometric passports (series B) issued during 15, 10 and 5 days can be submitted only by December 25, the State Information Resources Center “Registru” has said, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. The applications for non-biometric passports issued during 24 hours can be lodged by December 30, while for those issued during eight and four hours – by December 31. The document issuing centers will work according to the ordinary program in the period. Only biometric passports will be issued in Moldova after January 1, 2010. The non-biometric passports cost 450 lei if they are issued in 15 days, 600 and 750 lei if they are issued in 10 and, respectively, 5 days. Those issued in 24 hours cost 1,250 lei, while in eight and four hours – 1,500 and, respectively, 1,900 lei. No applications for passports issued in 30 days that cost 250 lei can be submitted. According to the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, the biometric passports will cost at most €35 (about 560 lei). The first biometric passports issued within a pilot project cost 1,320 lei.
