The Superior Council of Magistrates (CSM) has launched the process of nominating two Constitutional Court candidates, with Parliament and Government making similar announcements today.

CSM said it will receive applications until July 10 and will interview pre-selected applicants on July 16.

In Parliament’s nomination process, applications should be submitted during July 2-12 to the Legal Commission.

The Government announced that it will receive applications until July 14.

Constitutional Court candidates must be citizens of Moldova, reside permanently in Moldova, be law school graduates and have relevant outstanding experience, and have blameless reputations.

The Constitutional Court is composed of six judges, with CSM, Parliament, and the Government getting to nominate two each.

President Igor Dodon welcomed the start of the nomination process. “I firmly believe this country needs honest and virtuous professionals to restore the prestige of the Constitutional Court and confidence of the people and the international community,” Dodon posted to Facebook. The president hopes the process can be completed by July 29 so that the swearing-in ceremony can be symbolically held on the 25th anniversary of the Moldovan Constitution.
