The MPs will examine the bill to amend the Constitution, which stipulates that the prosecutor general is appointed by the President, in the November 25 sitting, Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu said after the meeting of the legislature’s Standing Bureau, IPN reports.
Under the bill, the Head of State will name the prosecutor general at the suggestion of the Superior Council of Prosecutors for a seven-year term that cannot be renewed. The amendment refers to three articles concerning the prosecution service, the prosecutor general and hierarchically inferior prosecutors and the Superior Council of Prosecutors.
The bills to amend the Constitution are adopted by the votes of 2/3 of the 101 MPs.
“The agenda is tight. The bill on the appointment of the prosecutor general forms part of the prosecution service reform. It is a commitment assumed before society and the foreign partners,” stated Andrian Candu.
He noted that the agenda also includes the draft budgetary-fiscal policy and the holding of hearings on the bank fraud. “Information will be provided by the National Bank governor Sergiu Cioclea and acting prosecutor general Eduard Harujen,” said the Speaker.
Today, the given bill to amend the Constitution was also endorsed by the parliamentary commission on appointments and immunities.
