The nomination of Mihai Poalelungi for a new term as president of the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) represents defiance of the legal system and of society in general. The issue was debated in the talk show “Politics” on TV7 channel, IPN reports.

Political analyst Alexei Tulbure said the regime insisted on the candidacy of Poalelungi so as to further control the justice sector. “The current regime, which is a mafiotic one, was afraid to lose Poalelungi and kept him as president of the CSJ so as to continue to control the justice sector. Only Poalelungi was accepted as a candidate because this wouldn’t have had chances if valuable jurists had taken part in the contest alongside him,” he stated.

Deputy head of the “Our Party” Ilan Casu also considers that Poalelungi was kept by the Democratic Party for serving its interests. “The mafiotic clan controlled by Plahotniuc insisted that Poalelungi should further manage the CSJ so as control justice,” said the politician.

Member of the initiative group “PAS” Igor Grosu also does not agree with the way in which the president of the SCJ was nominated. “We want fair justice, not incorrect decisions taken arbitrarily. By choosing Poaleleungi, they aimed to preserve the current situation,” he stated.

The leader of the Platform “Dignity and Truth” Andrei Nastase noted that the nomination of Poalelungi is an additional reason for continuing the antigovernment protests. “We live in a captured state with controlled justice and the selection of Poalelungi confirms this once again,” he said.
