The support for the European integration path of Moldova and the strategic, political and physical reconnection of Moldova to the European space are the key objectives of the new nominated ambassador of Romania in Chisinau Daniel Ionita. In an interview for the portal intervio.ro, the ambassador said that Moldova is a strategic priority in the external action of the Romanian state, while Romania is interested in Moldova’s stability and in the maintenance of its European course, IPN reports.

According to Daniel Ionita, to achieve the set objectives, it is important to consolidate the tendencies towards stability and predictability by really, credibly and visibly launching reforms that are so necessary in the Republic of Moldova. Secondly, projects aimed at strengthening the ties with Romania, both at interpersonal and institutional levels, should be consistently prompted.

“In particular, I want to contribute to strengthening the presence of Romanian investors as a mandatory step imposed by the logic of the market and will act to signal the opportunities provided in the context of the resumption of the privatization process in the Republic of Moldova. While fulfilling my duties, I will count on the total support of the Romanian authorities and will act pro-actively, anticipatively and, I hope, efficiently for achieving the key objectives, by fully respecting the diplomatic norms and common law,” stated Daniel Ionita.

The ambassador considers that Romania can be a model of European integration for Moldova. “Currently, the bilateral relations are governed by the Joint Statement on the Institution of a Strategic Partnership between Romania and Moldova for the European Integration of Moldova, which was signed by the Presidents of the two states in Bucharest on April 27, 2010. The general approach to the bilateral relations is open and pragmatic and is aimed at developing cooperation at all the levels, with emphasis on the identification and promotion of the joint projects that can lead to increased interconnection between the two sides of the Prut,” said Daniel Ionita.

According to the diplomat, at this stage the priority of Romania’s effort should be to support the European integration of the Republic of Moldova so that the moment of the full and irreversible return of Moldova to the big European family occurs as soon as possible.

At the beginning of April, the President of Romania Klaus Iohannis signed decrees to recall a number of ambassadors, including the ambassador to Moldova Marius Lazurca. Afterward, the head of state approved a number of candidates for ambassador, including Daniel Ionita for Moldova.
