The simple motion on the internal policy in the economic sector was supported by none of the MPs. The Socialist MPs who proposed the motion left the assembly hall before this was put to the vote, IPN reports.

During the debate in Parliament, Minister Chiril Gaburici enumerated the accomplishments of the Ministry and the indicators that show improvements in the economy. He mentioned the rise in Moldova’s exports to the EU, attraction of foreign investments, creation of industrial parks, growth in the GDP, improvement of the investment climate, etc. The minister said the efforts of the reorganized Ministry are aimed at strengthening the new areas taken over by it and at improving the old areas. Among the key priorities are the foreign investment and road infrastructure, business climate and entrepreneurial policy.

Socialist MP Vlad Batrincea contradicted the minister, saying the foreign investment during the last few years decreased eight times. The number of taxes rose and this does not stimulate business entities to make investments. The economic growth shown by statistics is fueled exclusively by the remittances and assistance coming from abroad and there is no real economic growth.

Deputy Speaker of Parliament Valeriu Giletski asked when Moldova will have a European highway and railways and if there is a plan of action in this regard. He advised the minister to discuss the issues with Romanian Prime Minister Viorica Dancila, who is expected to come to Moldova next week.

In the session of questions, the minister was asked by Liberal MP Alina Zotea to comment on the scandal concerning his Baccalaureate diploma. Chiril Gaburici said the facts actually matter. “When I accepted to return to politics, I realized I will be subject to attacks. But I’m ok. I founded small and large companies and designed projects. No one will be able to take away what I have in my head and my heart from me. My knowledge and experience enable me to build from zero,” stated the minister.

In his speech, Speaker Andrian Candu said the Socialists are wrong when they say that 2017 was a year of economic failure. On the contrary, the business climate improved and the Party of Socialists is trying to mislead the people.
