No new nominal compensations will be fixed from January 1, 2010. The Government considers that about 29 million lei a year will be saved as a result of such a move. However, the persons who now receive nominal compensations will continue to receive them until this right expires. Such a decision was adopted by the Parliament at its sitting on December 29.
Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family Valentina Buliga said the law on the special social protection of certain groups of people was modified in accordance with the economic recovery and stabilization program for 2009-2011.
The minister said that 256,000 persons are now provided with nominal compensations. About 20,000 new recipients are included in this system yearly.
The average monthly nominal compensation for a person is 122 lei.
The Communist parliamentary group did not vote in favor of the modification of the law, saying the measure runs counter to the anti-crisis plan of the Filat Government.
