Gianni Buquicchio, the President of the Venice Commission, doesn't consider it necessary to amend the sensible sections of the Moldovan Constitution, in particular those concerning the official language, status and electoral system, stated Moldovan Communist Party leader Vladimir Voronin after a meeting with Buquicchio. Voronin told a news conference on Wednesday that Gianni Buquicchio doesn't see the point in radically amending the Fundamental Law, all the more since the Transnistrian conflict hasn't been settled yet. According to Vladimir Voronin, Gianni Buquicchio said during the meeting that if there are certain issues regarding the procedure of electing the President, such amendments should be discussed in Parliament; a solution could be the reduction of the number of votes required, but should not entail a radical change of the procedure. Voronin added that the President of the Venice Commission also suggested that a common commission should be created, encompassing all the parliamentary groups and including Venice Commission experts, to jointly develop constitutional amendments.
