The bomb squads found no explosive devices at the head offices of the four banks that experienced bomb scares in the morning of February 24. The information was confirmed for IPN by the press officer of the Chisinau Police Division Adrian Jovmir.
Shortly after 9am, the police were informed about the mining of the head offices of two banks, located on the streets Columna and Banulescu-Bodoni. After about an hour, a bomb threat was reported at a bank situated on Mircea cel Batran Blvd, and in another half an hour – at the fourth bank located also on Mircea cel Batran Blvd. The employees were evacuated.
In the first three cases, the bomb scares turned out to be false. At the fourth bank, the bomb squad also found no explosives, but is still examining the place. The caller who informed about the planting of bombs wasn’t identified yet and it’s not known if it’s one and the same person in all the cases.
Under the law, the deliberate misinforming about an act of terrorism is punished with a fine of 4,000 to 10,000 lei, 180 to 240 hours of community service or up to two years in jail.
