School students are prohibited from using mobile phones or any other electronic communication device during lessons. As an exception, electronic devices will be allowed for educational purposes and only at the decision of teachers. Relevant amendments to the Education Code were approved by the Cabinet, IPN reports.

"At the request of parents, teachers, but also according to international studies and the practice of different countries, such as Sweden, Romania, France, it is proposed to ban mobile phones during lessons. In Moldova this practice already exists. Educational institutions could, based on own decisions, adopt such regulations, but there were countless requests to strengthen this practice through legal regulations," said Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun.

However, phones will be allowed at lessons for educational purposes and in emergency situations, such as the poor health of the student or teacher, as well as in unpredictable crisis situations. Another exception will be the need to permanently monitor, with special equipment, the health of students with confirmed disabilities or severe chronic diseases.

The conditions and way of use of mobile phones or any other electronic communication device will be stipulated in regulations approved by the Ministry of Education and Research.
