No cases of mumps have been registered in educational institutions in Chisinau municipality, head of the Education, Youth and Sports Division Tatiana Tverdohleb told Info-Prim Neo. The hygienist of the Division is to contact the Municipal Hospital for Children “V. Ignatenco” to find out how many of the children missing from school in the first two days after their vacation are infected with mumps. Measures will be taken, if necessary, to prevent an outbreak of mumps, Tatiana Tverdohleb said. The educational process has been resumed in all schools and kindergartens in the municipality, with few absences being registered, the cited source said. One of the two steam boilers installed last year at the school in Bacioi village went down. Despite the low temperatures in the classrooms the educational process was not stopped. On Thursday morning, January 10, a team of engineers left to fix the boiler. Meanwhile, electric heaters have been installed in the classrooms with temperatures below 18 degrees Celsius. The same day, a pipe rupture caused hot water leakage at the cafeteria in the city school no. 24. In Chisinau’s Centru district, the children from a group of kindergarten no. 23 have been distributed among other groups, due to cold temperature in the room. Doctors are on alert for a potential mumps outbreak in the capital city – a contagious viral infection that primarily affects the parotid glands — one of three pairs of salivary glands, located below and in front of the ears.
