Nistu war veterans representing the Association “Tiras-Tighina” said they began to be threatened by the administration of Transnistria after they tried to hinder the Transnistrian leader Yevgeny Shevchuk from taking the plan to Moscow at the Chisinau airport on November 10. Shevchuk, helped by the police, managed to board the plane, but through the back door, not the VIP Hall as he intended.
In a news conference at IPN, the head of “Tiras-Tighina” Anatolie Carman said the Nistru war veterans resorted to such a gesture in protest and in order to warn the public that Shevchuk goes freely through Chisinau.
Anatolie Caraman noted that Minister of the Interior Dorin Recean, instead of taking attitude, named the veterans instigators. “We have only one message for Mister Dorin Recean: If you had kept quiet, you would have remained a philosopher. To the Transnistrian administration, we reply: We are not afraid and will continue to take steps in accordance with the plan of action of the war veterans association,” he stated.
According to the head of “Tiras-Tighina”, there is no political organization behind the acts of the Nistru war veterans. “I will make no other comments given that Moldova is going through an election campaign,” he said. The war veterans are waiting fort the authorities’ reaction to what happened.
