The veterans of the Nistru armed conflict approve of the initiative of the Pro-European Coalition to stage a demonstration in support of Moldova’s integration into the EU on November 3, IPN reports, quoting a statement published by the War Veterans Confederation.
The veterans said such an action is welcome and necessary given that the opponents of Moldova’s European integration mount protests on the streets of Chisinau and in different settlements of the country. “They are few, but noisy and impertinently speak in the name of the Moldovan people whom they do not represent. Therefore, the Moldovan people should again clearly state their pro-European option in a large-scale event in the Great National Assembly Square,” reads the statement.
According to the veterans, this event should bring to an end the speculations that Moldova oscillates between the East and the West and should represent the climax of the four-year work done to bring Moldova closer to the EU and a culminant point before the Vilnius Summit, where Moldova will take an important and irreversible step on its road to Europe.
“We, the Nistru war veterans, announce that we will defend our common future in Europe as we earlier rose to protect the integrity, independence and sovereignty of Moldova. We urge all those who want to live in a democratic and prosperous state to come to the Great National Assembly Square on November 3 and to clear state their pro-European option,” it is said in a the statement.
