The National Union of the Independence War Veterans criticize the rumored candidate for Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubko. At a news conference on Tuesday, representatives of the Union accused Zubko of pursuing certain interests in concert with persons close to the Communists, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Alliance for European Integration's intention to name a person who has relations with dubious businessmen as Moldova's Prosecutor General arouses bewilderment, said the association's leader Eduard Maican. According to him, if Zubko is appointed as Prosecutor General, the economic frauds and crimes committed by the Communist government as well as the April events will be hushed up. “We warn the people about the necessity of hindering the promotion of persons close to representatives of the Communists to high-ranking posts and urge the leaders of the parliamentary democratic parties to realize the responsibility that they have towards the people,” Maican said. The Union considers that the leaders of the Alliance for European Integration should discuss with the civil society before naming persons to key state positions. Valeriu Zubco could not be found for comment. At a sitting on October 7, the Parliament is to discuss the appointment of a new Prosecutor General following Valeriu Gurbulea' resignation. Head of Parliament Mihai Ghimpu said they have a candidate for this post, but avoided giving names.
