Nistru War: fact and fiction meet in theater play

Playwright Irina Nechit set the Nistru war on paper, merging facts with fictive elements. The play was read publicly today, July 11, by students from the Academy of Music, Theater and Plastic Arts, reports Info-Prim Neo. The play was written as part of the program “Matei Millo”, in which the author worked with art students on the topic of violence in theatrics. The poetess proposed the documentary theater genre, and met with veterans and victims of the war. “I’m not using only documentary elements; I’ve added some imaginary ones too. I’ve imagined that Brad Pitt bought a tank from Budapest during some movie shooting; hence I also wrote that a famous actor, whom I dubbed Brad P., decided to buy a tank from Cosnita. Thence appeared the idea and, consequently, the text of the play”, said the author. The play depicts the shooting of a documentary about the Nistru war. During the filming, the journalist and the director are called by the manager, who tells them that a famous actor, Brad P., arrived in Cosnita and wants to buy a tank; the two quickly drive off to the left bank of the Nistru. Several adventures await them: they meet the Giant Black Swan, the tyrant and his daughter-in-law, and a character who is present in both acts of the play – Death. The play was developed in cooperation with the Chisinau-based Romanian Cultural Institute “Mihai Eminescu” and the Academy of Music, Theater and Plastic Arts. Irina Nechit, with the help of the students, worked on the play for 10 months.
