A boy aged nine fell under the thin ice of a pond in Săseni village of Călărași district when he went to walk and slide on ice together with a friend of his. His 12-year-old friend managed to get out of the water and sought helped, but it was too late for the younger boy.
Contacted by IPN for details, press officer of the Călărași Police Inspectorate Cristina Vicol said the call to the 112 Service was made by a local. When at the scene, the police officers determined that the two children trespassed on a farm that had a pond. They wanted to slide on ice, but fell under it.
The locals called by the older boy took the nine-year-old boy out in an unconscious state. An ambulance team was also called out, but the doctors failed to resuscitate him.
The State Hydrometeorological Service warned that the temperatures will go up during February 9-11 and the layer of ice formed on small rivers and ponds will gradually melt. Walking on ice is dangerous now.
