Unaffiliated MPs Iurie Leanca and Valeriu Giletski have announced the creation of the European People’s Group that will be led by the latter. The group also includes Stefan Creanga, Eugen Carpov, Octavian Grama, George Mocanu, Aliona Gota, Mihaela Spatari, and Simion Grishchuk, IPN reports.
“At the current stage, we focus on parliamentary cooperation. The main objective of the European People’s Group will be to support and accelerate measures to promote the path to European integration and to implement the reforms assumed through the Association Agreement with the European Union,” Iurie Leanca said in a press briefing.
Valeriu Giletski said the parliamentary group was constituted for organizational and political purposes in order to step up the parliamentary activity of MPs and to promote a common view – a pro-European people’s conservative doctrine. “We think it is important to have a political identity in Parliament. We also consider it is necessary to impose ourselves, to impose a viewpoint based on the pro-European commitments assumed before the voters. If it is the case, we will oppose the influence that will be exerted by other parties,” stated the MP.
Earlier this week, another six unaffiliated MPs joined the Democratic parliamentary group. Now there are no unaffiliated lawmakers in Parliament.
