The rectors of the most important Moldovan universities joined the extraterritorial organization of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova “For Independence and European Integration”, Info-Prim reports, quoting a communique from the PLDM. Grigore Belostecinic, rector of the Academy of Economic Studies, said the rector's decision was determined by the wish to contribute to strengthening the democratic and pro-European forces around a competent and vigorous party that will be able to solve the serious problems confronting the country. “We chose the PLDM because it is a dynamic party with a strong and professional team able to defend the interests of the people and assume responsibilities in all the areas,” the rector said. Academician Ion Bostan, rector of the Technical University of Moldova, said the PLDM abides by the principles and values of the Declaration of Independence, while the presence of an important group of signatories of this document in the ranks of the party is an additional argument to massively support the values and principles of the Liberal-Democrats. In a joint statement, the rectors express their support for the Alliance for European Integration and its efforts to promote democratization and reformation processes in the country and the role of the Filat Government in stabilizing the socioeconomic situation in the country and normalizing relations with the European organizations and strategic partners. The statement to join the organization was also signed by Gheorghe Ciocanu, rector of the State University of Moldova, Iurii Sedletski, rector of the University of European Studies, Gheorghe Popa, rector of the Balti-based State University “Alecu Russo”, Andrei Popa, rector of the Cahul-based State University “B.P.Hasdeu”, Gheorghe Cimpoies, rector of the State Agrarian University, Mihail Grosu, rector of the State Teacher Training University “Ion Creanga”, and Laurentiu Calmutski, rector of the Tiraspol State University based in Chisinau. The extraterritorial organization “For Independence and European Integration” was founded by members of the first Parliament of Moldova, academicians, people of culture and representatives of the Moldovan diaspora on June 19 to help the Liberal Democratic Party win the parliamentary and presidential elections that will take place this autumn.
