Nine parties have been registered with the Central Election Commission (CEC) as participants in the campaign preceding the national referendum on September 5, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The nine participants are: the Democratic Party (PDM), the “Moldova Noastra” Alliance (AMN), the Party of Communists (PCRM), the “Ravnopravie” Movement, the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), the Liberal Party (PL), the “European Action” Movement (MAE), the Christian-Democratic People's Party (PPCD) and the Republican People's Party (PPR).
The four parties representing the ruling Alliance for European Integration, as well as MAE have announced they will support the issue put up for referendum; PCRM and Ravnopravie will oppose; while PPCD and PPR haven't yet announced their option.
On September 5 voters will be asked whether or not they agree to the proposal that the president should be elected through direct popular vote.
