Nine fires were registered over the past weekend, claiming one life and causing damages to property. Liliana Puscasu, senior officer at the Fire & Rescue Dept., has told Info-Prim Neo that a 62-year-old man died suffocated in his own bed after falling asleep and slipping a burning cigarette on the bedclothes. A 0.25 m2 of smoldering area was enough to take the man’s life. A blaze ravaged through a raw material warehouse of Eurocosmetic SRL, located in Maximovca village, Anenii-Noi district, destroying all the content of the 50 m2 storehouse. Large paper rolls caught fire for reasons unknown. Six fire crews fought with the flames for about 5 hours, managing to locate the source and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby facilities, covering 200 m2 in area and storing 22 tonnes of cellulose, valued at 500,000 lei. Experts are currently investigating the circumstances to establish the cause of the fire, the potential authors and the damage. Over the first six days of April, 18 fires occurred in Moldova, claiming two lives. The 614 fires recorded since the beginning of the year were responsible for 86 casualties.
