Romania’s support for the Republic of Moldova remains unwavering. This is the conclusion with which Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu returned from the trilateral meeting held in Bucharest. The minister of foreign affairs of Moldova noted that Romania supports us with concrete projects that benefit all the country’s citizens, IPN reports.
In his discussions with the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of Romania Marcel Ciolacu, the Moldovan official appreciated the interparliamentary cooperation between the two states. Nicu Popescu welcomed the initiation of coordinated control at the Leușeni-Albița customs post and raised the construction of the Balti – Suceava overhead power line that will increase the electricity transfer capacity on the Romanian-Moldovan border. All these projects come to contribute to the modernization of Moldova.
With Luminița Odobescu, adviser on European affairs to President Klaus Iohannis, Nicu Popescu discussed Romania’s assistance in implementing the European Commission’s recommendations. “The Republic of Moldova is not only a country that benefits from foreign assistance, but also actively contributes to European and international peace and stability. This is what I stated in my meeting with NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană, who reiterated that the organization will offer assistance in strengthening the Republic of Moldova’s defense capabilities through different partnerships and dialogues with NATO,” said the Moldovan official.
In the Black Sea Security Conference staged under the ageists of the International Crimea Platform, Nicu Popescu reiterated that the Republic of Moldova s a European country that embraces democracy, freedom and respect for human rights. “I’m confident that owing to these values and the work done properly at home, our country will become a full-fledged member of the European Union,” noted the official.
“We also discussed the European Political Community Summit that will be hosted by the Republic of Moldova on June 1. Here, our friends will be able to see that our commitment to the European future is solid,” stated Nicu Popescu.
During April 12-13, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu and Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatyi took part in the trilateral meeting of the foreign affairs and defense ministers of Romania, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, which took place in Bucharest.
