“One more important step that brings us closer to the achievement of our country project – the entry into the European Union – was taken today. I always said in discussions with European officials that our country is a European state. We have a European past, our Romanian language is an official language of the EU and our place is in the European Union,” Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, stated in connection with the transmission of the completed accession questionnaire by Moldova, IPN reports.

He noted that during only 11 days, by an unprecedented inter-institutional effort, they manage to fulfill the third stage of the ten-step process of accession to the EU – the transmission of the first part of the accession questionnaire.

“Our work does not end here. We already work on the completion of the second part of the questionnaire that refers to the Community acquis. We are cooperating closely with representatives of the European Commission, with the French Presidency and the member states and are ready to make effort to fulfill the conditions needed to become part of the European family,” said the official, noting Moldova’s path of European integration is irreversible and the integration into a space of freedom, stability and peace is a priority of the diplomatic service.

The first part of the accession questionnaire was handed over by Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița to the EU Ambassador in Chisinau Janis Mazeiks, who will pass it on to the European Commission. The event involved senior state officials.
