Nicolai Dudoglo took steps that damaged Gagauzia's image, Mihail Formuzal

“Nicolai Dudoglo during the last three months took steps that were destructive and risky for the political status of Gagauzia and affected the autonomous unit's image,” the Governor of Gagauzia Mihail Formuzal said in a news conference on March 21. He referred to the series of trials over the complaints filed by his opponent in elections Nicolai Dudoglo. According to the reelected Governor, Nicolai Dudoglo fulfills the orders of players interested in destabilizing the situation in southern Moldova. Mihail Formuzal believes that Nicolai Dudoglo's steps aimed at invalidating the results of the Gagauz elections represented attacks on the status of Gagauzia and the Gagauz people's right to independently elect their administration. Nicolai Dudoglo started to lodge complaints over the December 26 Gagauz elections this January. He claimed that the electoral legislation was seriously violated and demanded rerunning the elections. The case was finally remitted to the Supreme Court of Justice, which classed the proofs provided by the mayor of Comrat as unfounded and confirmed that the elections were conducted in a legal way. After the judgment was passed, Roman Aronov, lawyer for Nicolai Dudoglo at the Supreme Court of Justice, told Info-Prim Neo that the mayor of Comrat is considering the possibility of suing the Moldovan state at the European Court of Human Rights as he considers that the Moldovan authorities violated his right to be elected and the right to a fair trial.
