The head of the Main State Tax Inspectorate Nicolae Vicol was set free from house arrest after over 60 days under arrest, but the investigation goes on, Vicol’s lawyer Ana Ursachi has told IPN.
“Today the Court of Appeals released Mister Vicol from house arrest, considering the defense’ arguments as plausible. The case is under investigation and we hope that it will remain at this stage,” said the lawyer.
Nicolae Vicol was arrested by officers of the National Anticorruption Center on February 15, on suspicion of passive corruption, abuse of power and illegal wiretapping. Until March 27, he was held in the remand unit, but was then transferred under house arrest.
