In the ceremony to sign the Association Agreement in Brussels on June 27, Moldova will be represented by Prime Minister Iurie Leanca. President Nicolae Timofti will remain in the country to enjoy this event alongside the people. Such a decision was reached by the two officials, presidential adviser Vlad Turcanu said, underlining that it is a political decision that the head of state assumes and that he considers beneficial to Moldova. On the eve of the signing ceremony, Nicolae Timofti will make a statement for the press.

The presidential advisor told a press beefing that in the evening of June 24, the head of sate will go to Romania as on June 25 he is to take part in the Summit of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP). Nicolae Timofti will deliver a speech in the session that will involve heads of state and government from a number of countries.

As to the Communist Party’s initiative on the dismissal of Nicolae Timofti, submitted to the secretariat of the President’s Staff and Parliament, Vlad Turcanu said the arguments provided by the Communists lack legal reasons and substantiation.

The adviser noted that Nicolae Timofti strictly respected the constitutional provisions concerning the neutrality. “The fact that the President considers, and has the right to such an opinion, that the inclusion of this provision in the Constitution in 1994 was a mistake is something different,” said Vlad Turcanu.

According to the head of state, Moldova’s neutrality status is violated by the presence of a foreign army on Moldova’s territory. He expressed his bewilderment at the fact that the Communist Party never took a public attitude to this flagrant violation of the neutrality status.
