President of Moldova Nicolae Timofti transmitted a public message in connection with the sociopolitical situation in the country. He called on the people to reflect on the existent danger, saying the revanchist neo-Soviet forces aim to profit from the created situation so as to try and stop the country from following its natural road to the European Union, IPN reports.
In his message, Nicolae Timofti says that the period through which we go is not the most favorable one in the country’s history. The dissatisfaction with the performance of the public institutions and government officials generated mass protests. In virtue of the democratic rights that work in the country, the people can demand that justice be made by all the forms stipulated by the law.
“The assessment of the current political, social and economic situation points to the necessity of taking immediate decisions to remedy the serious mistakes made at the level of banks and law enforcement institutions. The functionaries and statesmen who administered the state affairs with ill will or with negligence must resign. They must be investigated and held accountable. The political parties, for their part, including those who are in power, should draw conclusions from the current situation and should take measures to remedy the atmosphere in society,” said the President.
Depoliticizing the state institutions is the first step that should be taken in this respect. It is also important for Parliament to hold a plenary sitting to examine the current state of affairs and to take the required decisions. “It is evident that the instability in the region and the commercial bans imposed on our country directly influence the course of action. There are also other provocations aimed at our society, which intensified over the last two years. We witness the intensification of the revanchist neo-Soviet forces that want to profit from the created situation so as to try and stop the country from following its natural road to the European Union. I call on you, dear people, to reflect on this danger before responding to the injudicious calls made lately by so-called leaders who actually work against this country. It is also important for the demonstrations to take place in full compliance with the law and in a civilized way,” said Nicolae Timofti.
He also said that he discussed with police chiefs and instructed them to protect the protesting people and to ensure the protests take place peacefully. The President expressed his conviction that we will know to overcome the hostilities by implementing the law, by competence and patience, so that we afterward return to the daily projects that can bring welfare and harmony.
